Interim support for households relying on heating oil

Short-term emergency support is available for residents who rely on heating oil and are at risk of running out, ahead of new national funding due to launch later this year.

The temporary scheme will run until 31 March 2026 and is designed to help households who cannot afford the minimum cost of an oil delivery and are at immediate risk of losing the ability to heat their homes.

This follows the Government’s announcement on 16 March 2026 confirming additional national support for low income households using heating oil, which will be delivered through the new Crisis & Resilience Fund (CRF) from 1 April 2026.

West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) is able to use remaining Household Support Fund (HSF) resources until the end of March, allowing WNC to offer this short term help during the transition to the new scheme.

Residents may be eligible if they:

  • Live full time in West Northamptonshire
  • Use heating oil as their main way of heating their home
  • Have 150 litres or less, with priority given to households under 100 litres
  • Cannot afford the minimum order required for a delivery
  • Are at immediate risk of being unable to heat their home

This support is strictly for urgent situations and cannot be used to help with general cost‑of‑living pressures or long‑term affordability issues.

Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Proof of oil heating, such as a recent invoice, bank payment to an oil supplier, EPC, or tenancy agreement
  • Proof of current oil levels, including a dated photo of the tank gauge and tank size if shown as a percentage
  • Financial information, such as bank statements from the last month, recent income details, and any savings

This information helps the council confirm that a household is unable to meet the cost of a minimum delivery. Eligible residents will receive a Post Office CashOut Voucher, which can be redeemed for cash at any Post Office branch using photo identification. The cash must then be used to contribute towards the cost of purchasing heating oil.

Residents are advised that the support will not cover the full cost of a delivery, but will act as a contribution towards the increased costs. To request an application form, residents should email: HSFA@westnorthants.gov.uk

From 1 April 2026, the Government’s new Crisis & Resilience Fund (CRF) will replace the Household Support Fund and will include dedicated assistance for households reliant on heating oil.

Commissioner and Chief back to answer more questions at online public meeting

Good afternoon,

We want to invite you to join and submit your questions on crime and policing to Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone and Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet at an online public meeting later this month.

The event will take place between 6.30pm and 8pm on Tuesday 31 March, and will be livestreamed on both the Northamptonshire Police and the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Facebook pages.

For those that don’t have a Facebook account, the event will also be livestreamed on the Northamptonshire Police YouTube channel, where you do not require an account to view.

Questions about any policing or community safety issue are welcomed – potentially covering subjects such as neighbourhood policing, violence against women and girls, retail crime and town centre safety, road safety or funding.

Questions can be sent now by email to chiefschat@northants.police.uk or live during the broadcast via the Facebook or YouTube chat.

We would be grateful if you could join the meeting, and share the details with your networks and constituents, encouraging as many Northamptonshire residents as possible to be aware of the meeting and to take part.

Danielle and Ivan will answer as many questions as they can in the time available and the names of anyone asking a question will not be read out during the broadcast.

Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone said: “I was so pleased with the engagement we had with the last livestream, which is another way for us to reach out to people and listen to their concerns. I also see this as part of my role of holding the Chief Constable to account for delivering effecting policing to the county.

“As well as answering new questions that come in, we’ll feedback on the 13 actions the Chief Constable and I took away after the last livestream so that people can see we are really listening to what they have to say.”

Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet said: “This is a great way for us to listen to people from our county. Being accessible and visible is important to me and through the livestream, I can give answers or reassurance on issues that matter to people.”

We hope that you will submit your questions and join the event on the day.

Parish Council Response to Planning Applications 2026/0029/FULL & 2026/0030/LBC (Wakelyn Manor)

The Eydon Parish Council recently met to discuss the planning applications regarding Wakelyn Manor on School Lane. As one of our village’s most significant Grade II listed buildings, the Council feels it is important to share our formal stance with the community.

The Councils Position

After careful review, the Parish Council has submitted an objection to the current proposal. Our primary concerns center on the inclusion of a new “turret” and multiple roof lights.

Why the Council is Objecting:

The Parish Council’s role is to act as the custodian of the Eydon Village Design Statement (VDS). The VDS is a legally recognized document that protects the unique look and feel of our village. Our objection is based on three key points:

  • Preserving Local Character: The VDS identifies Wakelyn Manor as a “vernacular” building (built in the local style). The proposed turret is considered a “polite” architectural feature that does not fit Eydon’s traditional ironstone history.
  • Protecting the Skyline: The Council believes the turret would disrupt the historic rooflines along School Lane and the views from The Green.
  • Managing Light Pollution: To protect Eydon’s “dark skies,” we are asking for a stricter review of the proposed roof lights to prevent light spill.

Next Steps

We have formally requested that the West Northamptonshire Heritage Officer conduct a full site visit and report. We believe that such a significant change to a historic asset requires the highest level of expert scrutiny.

The final decision will be made by West Northamptonshire Council. Residents can view the full plans and the Parish Council’s detailed response on the WNC Planning Portal using the reference numbers above
