Emergency road repairs are taking priority
Urgent safety repairs are being prioritised across West Northamptonshire’s road network as a combination of wet weather and freezing conditions cause surfaces to deteriorate.
While large sections are already scheduled for preventative and permanent repairs, those works rely heavily on suitable weather windows and planned road closures. In the meantime, some roads are deteriorating faster than they can be inspected or proactively treated.
At the moment, the priority is to address the most urgent safety issues caused by sudden damage, making emergency repairs to make a location safe quickly, with teams returning to deliver longer lasting, permanent solutions once conditions allow.
We’re also encouraging people to help us by reporting any issues via the West Northamptonshire Council app, our website, or Fix My Street.
Shape the future of West Northamptonshire
Residents, businesses and community groups across West Northamptonshire are being urged to take part in a major consultation that will shape how the area grows and develops for decades to come.
The Local Plan is the blueprint for how our area will develop between now and 2043,
steering the big decisions about what gets built, where it goes, and how we protect our green spaces.
People are urged to share their views on it between now and Friday 27 March, with an online survey available at westnorthants.gov.uk/consultations and a series of exhibition events taking place at venues across West Northamptonshire over the next eight weeks.
Free healthy weight service can offer support

The 12-week Gro Health programme provides digital or in-person support, guided by a health coach for up to 12 months, plus NHS resources, email support, recipes, exercise plans, and referral pathways such as the National Diabetes Prevention Programme.
Last chance to share your views on our budget
Time is running out to give your views on our Council’s draft budget proposals for 2026/27.
We are consulting on a range of proposals designed to address significant financial pressures and set a balanced budget for 2026/27, including making more than £32m in efficiency savings, reviewing fees and charges for services including car parking and garden waste, and increasing our part of the council tax in line with Government allowances.
The public consultation is open until midnight on Tuesday, 3 February, after which the results will be presented by Cabinet alongside the final budget report on 16 February. It will then got to our full Council meeting for a final decision on 26 February.
National praise for outdoor learning centre
Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre has received national recognition for the high standard of its educational visits.
The centre has been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, recognising both the quality of the learning experiences it offers, as well as the effectiveness of its risk management.
The centre offers a wide range of hands-on activities designed to engage children with the natural world and develop important life skills. Visitors can take part in bushcraft and survival skills sessions that teach teamwork and resilience or enjoy orienteering and navigation challenges to build confidence and independence.

Independent report on adult social services
The Care Quality Commission has published its first-ever assessment of how our Council delivers services for adults, as part of a new national programme assessing all local authorities in England.
We received an overall rating of “Requires Improvement: Evidence shows some shortfalls” with a score of 59%, placing us just 4% below a “Good” rating.
While the assessment recognises many strengths across our services, it also highlighted areas for improvement and we are already delivering a plan to address these.
Funding available to help community projects
Community and voluntary groups across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to £7,500 to support projects that help improve health and wellbeing.
Our new Community Investment Fund is designed to empower local people and organisations and help them to realise projects that will make a difference in their communities.
Applicants have until Friday 20 February to request an application form, with the deadline for applications on Thursday 26 February.
Communities mark Holocaust Memorial Day
We joined communities across the country in commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on Tuesday, reflecting on the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered during the Holocaust, along with millions more who lost their lives under Nazi persecution.
To mark the day dignitaries and community groups came together for a ceremony in the Guildhall featuring a range of speakers as well as musical performances. Our One Angel Square building was also lit up at 8pm to coincide with the Light the Darkness National Moment.
Survey asks about solid fuel burning habits
Have you completed our Solid Fuel Burning survey yet?
Your answers will help us build a picture of how many people across West Northants heat their homes in this way, so we can support people to make more informed decisions about their burning habits, and reduce health risks for our communities.
Please take a moment to complete the survey before it closes this Saturday (31 January) by visiting the link below.
